Michael Palij is one of only 380 Master of Wine in the world.  A Canadian, Michael emigrated to the UK in 1989 and became an MW in 1995 at the age of 29.  He helped manage the 1990s retail drinks phenomenon, Oddbins, before setting up his own specialist importing company, Winetraders, in 1995.

 

Winetraders represents some of the world’s leading wine producers from Italy, Spain and Germany and its clients include the UK’s leading restaurants, hotels and merchants including three with royal warrants.  Michael’s ‘giving back’ activities focus on mentoring the next generation of wine trade professionals through WineMatters, a educational consultancy that offers courses in tasting and evaluation throughout the world.  Winematters is WSET-approved up to and including L4.
